What are the accreditation criteria?

Your business will be assessed on your provision of cycle facilities (such as secure parking, tools and a pump) and information (such as nearby routes and cycle shops). Many of the measures on the audit list are free, or low-cost, to set up you may already be Cycle Friendly and need to just apply to be recognised.

Essential criteria

  • Secure bike storage
  • Able to provide details for the nearest cycle shop, cycle hire, or specialist
  • Knowledge of local cycle routes
  • Display on your website how to reach your business by bike and/or public transport
  • Free water bottle refills
  • First Aid kit available for visitors own use and details for local hospital, GP surgery, or emergency number*

Desired criteria

  • A bicycle pump, puncture repair kit and tools available to borrow
  • Early morning/late evening food options available or self-catering available 
  • A room or an area for drying clothes, rucksacks, panniers and footwear
  • Takeaway lunch option
  • Secure bike locks for customer use
  • Clothes washing facilities or information for nearby launderette
  • Knowledge of, local visitor attractions and/or other Cycle Friendly businesses around your area
  • Bike wash
  • Electric charging facilities available for use
  • Discounts or other incentives for anyone arriving by bike, public transport or cycling during their stay
  • Accommodating group visits from cyclists, such as cycling clubs*
  • First Aid kit available for visitors own use and details for local hospital, GP surgery, or emergency number*
